We can all agree that the popularity of the green movement is undeniable. For the past few years, it has engaged individuals across the world and has reshaped the building and architectural industry.

It all began in 1993 when current CEO, Rick Fedrizzi, David Gottfried and Mike Italiano came together with one common goal: to promote sustainability in the building and construction industry. They created the non-profit US Green Building Council with the intention to develop a community of like-minded professionals that together would not only, promote sustainability, but educate other people in the field and engage politicians in their cause – Healthy, Sustainable buildings for everyone.

After 20 years, the USGBC has become the most renowned organization for Leading in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), providing verification of green buildings with a rating system that address both a wide variety of buildings types, as well as every phase of the building’s lifecycle – design, construction, operations and maintenance.

However, The US Green Building Council goes beyond the LEED certification, transforming the building landscape in many ways. They host the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated to green building, the Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, where thousands of professionals from all over the world come to attend. In addition, the organization acts as advocates providing lawmakers the tools, strategies and resources to increase government support. Last but not least, the USGBC provides educational programs in a variety of formats for professionals in different fields to support all LEED professional.

Not only has the US Green Building Council reshaped the construction industry, but they have revived the passion to build a better and more sustainable future.
