HOW TO BECOME A B CORPORATION?

HOW-TO-BECOME-A-BCORP

We believe that it is crucial to establish a sustainability mindset within the plumbing and restroom fixture industry. While our products save water, greenhouse gas emissions and energy; it is also crucial to us that our daily operational practices exercise the same environmentally friendly principles as the products. This also goes for the functionality of our offices and the well being of our employees.

With that said, applying to be a B Corporation was a no-brainer for us, and in October 2013, Falcon was certified as a one. Under this certification, we became a part of a world-wide community with one unifying goal: to include social and environmental criteria into our business goals.

B Corporations are quickly rising to the top of the sustainability movement and we encourage our partners and customers to start to look into how they can get certified. As we learned through our certification, the process is a bit of a journey and we are happy to share to help all of you who are interested in becoming a certified B Corporation.

The first step to becoming a B Corp is to fill out an Impact Assessment. GIIRS- the certifying body for B Corp- is extremely helpful in walking you through this process. In order to qualify as a B Corp, your company must score at least 80 out of the 200 points available on the Impact Assessment. The evaluation encompasses a considerably large range of issues, from product warranties to employee rights to environmental aspects, just to name a few.

In order to maintain B Corporation Certification, companies are required to be re-certified every two years- so just like any sustainability initiative, being a B Corporation is an on-going journey towards positive improvement. Our first year has been successful, however here at Falcon we are continually looking to improve- for our team members, our product portfolio, our local community and our natural world.
