Welcome back! It is time for our Spotlight series.  This space is reserved for highlighting all the great things our partners and customers are accomplishing worldwide.  These companies, institutions and venues are as much a part of Falcon’s journey to conserve, as our employees.  Let’s get right to it, shall we?

Located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, the Staples Center is well known for being the home to four professional sports franchises and host to over 250 annual events, equating to over 4,000,000 guests per year. This 950,000 square foot arena can hold over 19,000 basketball fans and almost 20,000 concert goers.

Since its construction in 1999, the Staples Center has focused heavily on sustainability and environmentally conscious initiatives. Renewable Energy through Solar Panels, Waste Management and Recycling, and Waterfree Urinals are a few of the initiatives taken by the Environmental Management System.

According to Bill Pottorfff, Vice President for Engineering, “We have estimated that we are saving approximately $2,350 per month in direct water savings, not factoring sewer charges and any other municipal taxes. Each urinal saves roughly 4.5 HCF (Hundred Cubic Feet) per month. We saved just over 7,000,000 gallons a year.” Holy smokes! In a drought-stricken California that’s great water savings news.

It’s incredible to see how the sports industry is adopting eco-friendly initiatives and helping  to save the environment, when just about 7 years ago the sports green movement didn’t even exist. According to the NRDC, it is one of the most influential and has the potential to become one of the most important collaboration in history. Go Staples Center! We are proud to be a part of this unprecedented movement.
