Being an International Company often comes with a lot of challenges. Differences in climate, culture, and political standpoints can stir away any initiative if not well addressed. In order to make a difference, we have to constantly ask questions and understand what a distinct territory and culture will entail when addressing water conservation.

With that said, not only are our distributors super important to our journey, but the Falcon International Family is ever so crucial as well. For that reason today, our spotlight will turn to Falcon’s Asian office. We are pleased to introduce you to Paul Liang.

Hi Paul! Thanks for being a part of our Spotlight. Let’s start with a small introduction. What is exactly your roll at Falcon and how did you get to where you are now?

My role at Falcon actually evolved over time.  I am currently the Vice President of Sales and Marketing in East Asia, but before turning my focus on all of East Asia, I was the sole waterless urinal distributor and provider for Taiwan for 8 years.

Is water conservation an important issue in East Asia?

Yes it is! There is definitely water shortages everywhere in my region, however the challenge is the cost of it. Usually water and sewage rates are subsidized by the government, making the rates very low. This makes it so people don’t understand how scarce this natural resource really is.  Because of this subsidized cost of water, savings is not one of the main priorities in an Asian market, therefore we have to rely on the sustainability and technological aspect of the product acts as a defining role.

How does our products help you address your customer’s needs?

Being that the challenges here differ from the ones in the US, we need to take a different approach when introducing the product to the market. We must shift our focus and our product story, water and money savings are not the main focus, yet hygiene and innovation are.

Are there any sustainable initiatives your region is involved with?

Yes, we have many, however they are usually focused on residential water savings and not so much in commercial buildings (like this one in Southern California).  We are working to change this, as just as much if not more water can be saved from businesses investing in water saving technology.
